Lockhart ISD announced the selection of Amelie Sanchez as its new director of secondary education. In this role, she will provide instructional leadership to secondary principals and their instructional teams at Lockhart Junior High School, Pride High School, and Lockhart High School.

Amelie Sanchez

In her 16 years in public education, she has spent the past  five years at North Shore Senior High in Galena Park ISD, one of the largest high schools in Texas. She is currently the associate principal of operations at the campus and previously served as the 12th grade lead principal. She has led English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR), Career and Technical Education (CTE), and the advanced placement programs.

Prior to joining Galena Park ISD, Sanchez worked for Austin ISD and Weslaco ISD for 11 years in roles with increasing responsibility including teacher, team leader, curriculum specialist, and assistant principal.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with Lockhart ISD's instructional leaders, teachers, and community in ensuring student access to relevant, rigorous curricula and systems that assure the instructional efficacy needed for students to be college, career, and military ready,” said Sanchez.

“In searching for our new director of secondary education, the district interviewed a number of qualified candidates,” added Interim Superintendent Kimberly Brents. “Ms. Sanchez emerged as the top choice as an educational leader with a wealth of experience that will benefit our secondary students.”

Sanchez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Concordia University Texas in Austin. She is currently a doctoral student in University of Houston’s K-12 Professional Leadership program.
