LISD COVID-19 Response

LISD COVID-19 Response

The priority concern for Lockhart ISD is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. As we face public health concerns regarding the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, we remain in close contact with our local health department and continuously monitor updates from Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Additionally, we have met with members of the LISD Safety Task Force and remain in regular contact to ensure our local response is collaborative and cohesive.

On this page, you will find information about how to minimize risk to you and your family, what LISD is doing to help keep students and staff safe, communication updates from the school district, and resources for additional information from DSHS and CDC.

We will continue to update this page as we have more information to share. Any potential changes to operations will be communicated through the normal district channels of email, the school district website, LISD Facebook and Twitter, and push notifications through the Lockhart ISD mobile app--free and available on both iTunes and Google Play.

CDC Recommended Practices

To help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including flu and COVID-19, follow these measures:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue to cover it, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Lockhart ISD Response

Here are some of the pre-emptive measures we are currently taking to help control the spread of flu and other potential viruses:

  • Our school nurses and clinic staff follow guidelines set by the Texas Department of State Health Services to protect our children from communicable illnesses. Additionally, our Health Services Coordinator is closely monitoring updates by the CDC regarding viruses such as the flu and the novel coronavirus.

  • Our custodial contractor, SSC, ensures all classroom and facility surfaces are disinfected daily.

  • SSC is checking in with school nurses to get up-to-date information about numbers of current cases, students affected, and areas of potential concentration, so he can better direct targeted cleaning efforts. Click here to read the letter from the SSC CEO regarding their efforts to disinfect our schools and facilities.

  • SSC deploys a “Clorox 360” machine to assist in the disinfecting of our campuses in those targeted areas in which there have been increases in virus concentration.

  • Our transportation contractor, Goldstar Transportation, is currently disinfecting the buses daily.

  • We are emphasizing the importance of handwashing, covering coughs, using hand sanitizer, and staying home when sick.
