In cases of inclement weather, Lockhart ISD works closely with county and regional emergency management teams, meteorologists, and the LISD transportation department, who deploys staff as early as 4 am to inspect roads known to be quickly impacted by rain and/or ice.

Collectively, we gather as much information as possible and consider the impact to student and staff safety, the impact on parents if there is a delay or closure, and the impact on adequate district operations to support instruction and learning.

The superintendent will make a decision no later than 5 am for a delayed start or a school closure. The district will only initiate major communication in cases where operations are actually changed due to weather.

Delayed Start (2 Hour Delay)

The superintendent will make a decision no later than 5 am. Then, the district will initiate phone calls and emails to all parents and staff. The district will also place information on the district's main website at www.lockhartisd.org, LISD’s Facebook page, and LISD’s Twitter page. Additionally, the district will do a push notification through the LISD mobile app. LISD will also record an announcement on the LISD weather phone line at 512-398-0005.

  • In the case of a delayed start, it would be a two hour delay for all school operations. For example, elementary school usually  starts at 7:30 am. In a delayed start, elementary school would start at 9:30 am.

  • If your student rides the bus,  the bus will come two hours later than the usual pick up time. You can also follow the status of buses on the Bus Info page. Classes will begin two hours later than the usual start time.

  • All staff report to work 2 hours later than your usual report time.

  • All early morning student activities and practices are canceled.

  • School will dismiss at the regular time.

School Closure
The superintendent will make a decision no later than 5 am. Then, the district will initiate phone calls and emails to all parents and staff. The district will also place information on the district's main website at www.lockhartisd.org, LISD’s Facebook page, and LISD’s Twitter page. Additionally, the district will do a push notification through the LISD mobile app.  LISD will also record an announcement on the LISD weather phone line at 512-398-0005.

  • All district offices and campuses are closed.

  • All activities and practices are canceled.

In those cases of school closure, be sure to monitor the district communication for any potential impact the following day.
