LISD purchasing department recognized among best in Texas

The Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) awarded Lockhart ISD’s purchasing department with the “Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations Recipients” for 2021, placing the district among the best in Texas. This is the first time earning this award in district history. The department is led by Director of Purchasing Tanya Homann in partnership with Purchasing Specialist Crystal Flores.

Purchasing Award of Merit

The “Award of Merit” was created to recognize Texas school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, and education services centers that are committed to following professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services.

TASBO released the list of 53 educational organizations from across the state that were recognized for following best practices in the area of purchasing operations. To put this into perspective, there are 1,247 school districts in Texas.

Each team will be honored at an awards reception on Tuesday, February 16, 202, in Austin during the TASBO annual conference. The Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations is sponsored by BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing.

“We are incredibly proud of Tanya Homann and Crystal Flores for being locked on excellence in their department’s critical role of purchasing for the district,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada. “They have once again put Lockhart ISD on the map for excellence, adding to the LISD business office’s record of excellence.”

LISD’s business office received the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR). This is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and reporting, and it is the 15th consecutive year the district has earned this award. Additionally, the business office scored a 100 percent on the Schools Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas “FIRST” Rating, earning a Superior rating for the 18th consecutive year.
