Superintendent Susan Bohn announced the selection of Belinda Vasquez as the new principal at Bluebonnet Elementary School. The promotion became effective July 11, 2017. Vasquez assumes the position as Glenn Shanks transfers to Plum Creek Elementary as assistant principal.

Vasquez joined the administration team at Lockhart Junior High School in 2015 as assistant principal. She demonstrated strong and effective leadership on the campus that benefitted both students and staff.  During this time, she implemented and trained staff on CHAMPS: Positive and Proactive Approach to Classroom Management, providing teachers additional skills to ensure a better learning environment for students. Additionally, Vasquez implemented a discipline matrix for the campus as well as a PBIS program with great success. Within the first year of administration, discipline referrals decreased by 82 percent.

Vasquez has been instrumental in the RAISEup Texas initiative at LJHS to help transform middle school teaching and learning to increase college and career-readiness. She currently serves as the secretary on the Literacy Leadership Team for the E3 Alliance collaborative as well as the LISD elementary summer school principal. Also, Vasquez works closely with teachers to make data-informed decisions and implement instructional strategies to best impact student learning.

Prior to becoming assistant principal, she served as a bilingual teacher and team leader at Plum Creek Elementary School. There, she implemented campus initiatives related to the bilingual program and hosted parent bilingual events to engage parents and partner in their child’s success.

“Ms. Vasquez has demonstrated effective leadership in program implementation and is experienced in guiding instruction and developing teachers,” said Bohn. “I am confident she will be a great asset for the staff and students at Bluebonnet Elementary.

Vasquez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas State University and a Master of Educational Administration from Concordia University.
