Trustees Johnson, Wright, and Guyton swear in for new terms; Board votes to reorganize leadership

Trustees Steve Johnson, Michael Wright, and Tom Guyton were sworn for new terms at a special called Board meeting Friday evening after winning three at-large seats in the Nov. 6 election.

Deputy Superintendent Kimberly Brents presented the election results for canvassing. Trustees Becky Lockhart, Carl Cisneros, and Warren Burnett canvassed the votes, and the Board voted 4-0 to approve the elections results from the Caldwell County Elections Office.

After certifying elections results, Johnson, Wright, and Guyton came to the podium and took the oath of office. Each will serve a four-year term. This is the second term for both Johnson and Wright. Guyton is serving his third term.

After the swearing-in ceremony, the Board voted for its officers as part of the reorganization. The Board voted unanimously for Johnson to serve as president, Wright as vice president, and Guyton as secretary.

“I’d like to thank Mrs. Brenda Spillmann for getting us where we are today. There is no doubt, without your leadership on the Board, we wouldn’t have been anywhere close to where we are today. You’ve definitely gone above and beyond and have put the children of Lockhart ISD first, and I really thank you for leading us to where we are today,” said Johnson.

In response, Spillmann stated, “I’d like to say it wasn’t just me. It’s been us as a team. I’ve had the privilege to be Board president. It is such a weighted role. Children may not always listen to what we say, but they watch how we behave and the choices we make. For me, I made a commitment to treat each of you with respect and to show we are a team. I am honored to have worked with you all.”

Superintendent Mark Estrada said, “You’ve been a very important piece in my transition into this position. I want to thank you for your encouragement and support. I look forward to our continued relationship with you on the Board.” Estrada congratulated the winners of the election and Board reorganization. “I’m very optimistic. Our future is bright. The sky's the limit. We’re going to do great things, moving forward, with this team of eight.”
