Superintendent's Welcome

The Lockhart Independent School District welcomes you! Our district understands that children are not only our greatest hope for the future, but also our greatest responsibility. To fulfill that responsibility, you will find our school and district staff members working diligently to provide a challenging and nurturing environment for all students. From the time students board a bus in the morning to the time they are returned home in the afternoon, they will be surrounded by caring adults who see them as the outstanding individuals they are.
When you walk through the doors of our campuses, you will also hear the principals and staff members speak of “teaching and learning.” We believe that teaching can only be considered teaching if students are learning. This focus on “teaching and learning” creates instructional environments that develop students who understand how to learn as well as what to learn. Strong learning and understanding naturally leads to strong student performance.
Of the district’s seven campuses rated under the Texas Education Agency’s standard 2009 Accountability Ratings system, no campus was rated less than “Recognized” for 2009. Five campuses (Clear Fork Elementary, Navarro Elementary, Plum Creek Elementary, Lockhart Junior High School, and Lockhart High School) earned the state’s second-highest rating of “Recognized” and two campuses (Bluebonnet Elementary and the Lockhart High School Freshman M.L. Cisneros Campus) earned the state’s highest rating of “Exemplary” for 2009. In addition, Pride High School earned the state’s highest rating possible under the alternative education accountability system.
Driven by such outstanding individual campus performance, the Lockhart Independent School District earned a “Recognized” rating for 2009. Outstanding state accountability ratings, however, are only part of what makes the Lockhart ISD an ideal educational destination. If you visit our schools, you will find that our students, educators, parents, and community work together each day in visible support of quality education and outstanding student performance in both the classroom environment and in the extracurricular environment.
School districts are only as strong as the communities that support them. You will find that the Lockhart community takes great pride in supporting its school system. You will see community members devoting their time, talents, and resources to help provide our students with the very best education possible. Couple those efforts with the commitment and energy of our campus and district staff members, and the result is an educational organization that can spur and support its students in achieving great things. I encourage you to contact our schools so you can become an active part of our students’ successes.
